Finnish Hub for Development and Validation of Integrated Approaches FHAIVE

The mission of FHAIVE is to develop and validate Integrated Approaches to Testing and Assessment (IATA) for chemical safety assessment and drug development by integrating advanced in vitro techniques along with AI-based data analytics and predictive modelling.

Scientists at FHAIVE investigate the mechanism of action of a broad range of chemical exposures, including small molecules, biological therapeutics, bio- and nanomaterials by toxicogenomics approaches. This data is then analyzed by advanced computational methods to formulate reliable models that can be used to develop new chemicals and drugs with desired properties. FHAIVE focus and expertise goes well beyond traditional toxicology, as it covers drug development as well as the study of human pathology and epidemiology. FHAIVE is a GLP accredited laboratory and is the Finnish national reference laboratory for the EURL-ECVAM validation network (NETVAL) for alternative methods to animal testing.

Dario Greco is full professor of bioinformatics and director of the FHAIVE. Greco received the PhD in 2009 at the University of Helsinki, Finland. He received the first group leader appointment in 2013 at the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health. From 2017-2020, he served as tenure-track associate professor at Tampere University. To date, he is a co-author of over 150 peer-reviewed articles (H-index 42) and completed the supervision of 10 PhD theses. In the period 2013-2021, he received over 6M euros research funding to advance the field of toxicogenomics and systems toxicology.
