Our group studies mitochondrial function and dysfunction. Our main interests at this time are in the role played by mitochondrial heat production in various physiological and pathological phenomena, both in human cells and in model organisms. Although the group is nowadays small, we have links with mitochondrial researchers all over the world and can help build bridges with relevant experts, for those wishing to investigate the mitochondrial dimension in any aspects of cell and molecular physiology.
Since 1996, Howy Jacobs has been Professor of Molecular Biology in Tampere, having trained in Cambridge, Glasgow and Caltech. He is a member of EMBO, has led many national and international research consortia in mitochondrial biology and biomedicine, and is a well-known science commentator and communicator.
