Research Assistant (Zonal hydraulic concept, Master’s thesis), 1-2 positions

We are inviting applications for 1-2 Master’s thesis positions. The successful candidate(s) will be working on a project as part of the IHA team, which is working on further development and use of zonal hydraulic concept for the electrification of existing non-road mobile machines (NRMMs) and stationary applications. The zonal hydraulic concept is based on Direct Driven Hydraulics (DDH) approach. This technology approach combines the advantages of the electric and hydraulic technologies leading to increased controllability.

Research Assistant (Zonal hydraulic concept, Master’s thesis), 1-2 positions

Innovative Hydraulics and Automation research group (IHA), within the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Tampere University, is doing interdisciplinary research in the field of Fluid power automation by bridging theory and practice with cooperation with industry. Main research fields of IHA are Autonomous off-road machines, Digital hydraulics, Heavy-duty robotics and Hybrid technology.

Job description

We are inviting applications for 1-2 Master’s thesis positions. The successful candidate(s) will be working on a project as part of the IHA team, which is working on further development and use of zonal hydraulic concept for the electrification of existing non-road mobile machines (NRMMs) and stationary applications. The zonal hydraulic concept is based on Direct Driven Hydraulics (DDH) approach. This technology approach combines the advantages of the electric and hydraulic technologies leading to increased controllability.

Requirements

The successful candidate(s) should be a Master’s level student with a strong motivation. We appreciate the following:

  • Courses taken and background in some of the following areas: electric and/or hydraulic
  • Prior knowledge of practical installations, measurements laboratory equipment, LabView/dSpace is consider as advantage
  • Good command of Matlab/Simulink

Applicants close to completion of their 40 credits will also be considered to start their Master thesis.

We offer

The position will be part-time or full-time (depends on student situation)  and it will be filled for a fixed-term of 6-8 months, commencing as soon as possible. The successful candidate(s) may be offered a PhD position after completing the Master’s thesis.

The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. The position of Research Assistant is placed on the job demand level 1 (the demand level chart for the teaching and research staff). In addition, employees will receive performance-based salary.
