“Towards a more sustainable transport system with research-based knowledge” offered interesting presentations and encounters between old and new acquaintances at Tampere University’s Hervanta campus. It was also possible to follow the presentations remotely.
The program started with presentations in English. Professor Maria Attard (L-Università ta’ Malta (UM), Institute for Climate Change and Sustainable Development) gave a keynote speech and discussed the future of transport research. After that, presentations from Verne followed. First, Heikki Liimatainen gave an overview of Verne’s pathway and milestone from 2011 to 2026, followed by Tiina Rinne comments and reflections on the previous speeches.
During the coffee break, was possible to get acquainted with poster presentations, Verne’s research and researchers. After the coffee break, the presentations were in Finnish. Niko-Matti Ronikomäki from the Ministery of Transport and Communications presented knowledge–based approach to decision–making in the transport sector. Tuomas Hietaranta from Posti discussed sustainable logistics and Verne’s research projects on cycling were presented by Kalle Vaismaa and Harri Vaarala. This presentation session had a parallel session in English, which discussed the themes of future transport research in the form of a workshop.
Networking and exchanging news was continued in connection with an informal evening out in Tampere city centre.
